ChordBook — Songwriting Studio
Intro
What is ChordBook?
A browser-based songwriting studio for building chord progressions and rhythm patterns.
Build your song structure
Start with an Intro and add Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, Bridge, and Outro sections in any order. Each section is an independent block with its own chord table, short notes field, and a menu to clear, duplicate, or delete it.
Chord progressions
Pick a key and mode, then fill the bar-by-beat chord tables — every cell shows beat numbers like 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 so you can place chords precisely. Use the built-in diatonic chord palette, type your own chords, or generate progressions from classic Roman numerals with the Inspire controls.
Bridge strategies
Need a contrasting section? Choose from harmonic strategies like Relative Minor, Line Clichés, and Modal Borrowing to create bridges that resolve back into the Chorus.
Tempo and playback
Set BPM and time signature, then start the global transport with a single Play/Pause button. A synced metronome keeps time, and BPM can be controlled from a desktop knob or mobile stepper.
Drum machine
Program a 16-to-64-step drum pattern in 16-step increments with kick, snare, hi-hat, and open hi-hat tracks. Load your own samples, adjust the Humanize slider to introduce subtle loop variations, and the pattern stays locked to the same clock as the metronome.
Themes and layout
Switch between Light, Dark, and Intertext — a 1990s Ukrainian teletext-inspired visual theme. On desktop the sidebar stays fixed while the song scrolls; on mobile the editor adapts to a two-bar grid with a bottom sheet for controls.
Save, load, and export
Create a free account to save presets to the cloud — song title, key, scale, tempo, time signature, sections, chords, notes, drum patterns, and uploaded samples are all stored privately. Load, update, or delete presets any time, or export the full song as a text file.
